About Michael Wegerer Yoga

Michael Wegerer will guide you through a classical yoga tradition, aimed at cultivating peace of mind, bringing contentment to the heart and developing strength and flexibility in the body. The teachings of T Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar:

  • respects traditional yogic wisdom as found in classic yoga texts like the Yogasūtras and the Haṭhayogapradīpikā. There is no need to borrow from other wisdom traditions, because the teachings of yoga are pretty much complete already
  • adapts traditional yoga techniques and goals to meet the uniqueness of each student of yoga; in class, yoga postures are adapted so that the benefits of a posture (or other yoga tool) are accessible to the individual.
  • emphasises intelligent choice and sequencing of yoga techniques to bring about desired changes while avoiding harming the practitioner
  • uses movement in and out of a posture before staying and stretching in a posture; it is a more effective way of working with the body
  • encourages the development of the breath as a core yoga practice, not only while working with postures but also in the seated yoga practices; a long, smooth and subtle breathing pattern is an important milestone in traditional yoga

Michael’s yoga classes in Guernsey are taught in a way that is suitable for you, no matter what your level of ability, and are organised around themes that extend over several weeks. This allows students to develop a deep personal understanding and experience of yoga theory and practice.

Class programmes will typically blend yoga philosophy and practices that integrate yoga postures (āsana), yoga breathing exercises (prāṇāyāma), chanting (mantra) and meditative techniques (bhāvanā).

The combined effect of practising Yoga should be a feeling of increased wellbeing and self-improvement (sattva). Eventually, we may discover that hidden aspect within all of us which needs no improvement.
